Within two miles:
The famous Wookey Hole Caves and Paper Mill. The historic City of Wells, (the smallest City in England) with its Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. A market is held here on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wells is also well known as the film location for the box office hit ‘Hot Fuzz’.
Within seven miles:
Glastonbury, famous for its Tor and Abbey and steeped in the history and legends of King Arthur. Nearby is Street, now well known for Clarks Village a large factory outlet for manufacturers of many well known names in the High Street. Cheddar is well worth a visit being renowned for its impressive gorge, caves and cheese.
Within twenty miles:
The elegant Georgian City of Bath with its famous Roman Baths, Abbey and Jane Austin museum. The bustling port and business centre of Bristol, the home of Brunel’s ship the SS Great Britain and his incredible suspension bridge across the Avon Gorge. Other attractions are Longleat Safari Park, Cricket St Thomas, Haynes Motor Museum, and the nearby seaside resort of Weston-super-Mare. The Royal Bath & West Showground at Shepton Mallet hosts many shows and exhibitions.
Leisure Activities:
Walking and pony trekking on the Mendip Hills, birdwatching on the world famous Somerset Levels.
Horseriding, swimming and the cinema are all available locally.
Food & Drink:
The two nearby villages of Wookey and Wookey Hole both have pleasant pubs selling very good value home produced meals, real ales and cider. Wells offers a wide range of restaurants, cafes and pubs to suite all pockets and tastes!
